Dundee, NY The
weatherman predicted rain Saturday, but the only thing
coming from the skies Saturday afternoon was the green
flag dropping on the opening of the 2008 New York Modified
Midget Series season. 19 modified midgets had their cars
ready for action on the earliest start to a NYMM season,
but the racing was already mid season form. After picking
up 2 NYMM feature wins in 2007, Nick The Kid Cooper
(35N) added another feature win to his young resume taking
home the 20 lap A-Main Saturday night at the Black Rock
Speedway. Cooper, who hails from Canandaigua, took his new
2007 Hyper Chassis to the bottom and would lead all 20 of
the 20 lap A-Main. Cooper would also take home the NPS
Racing heat 1. Timex Morgan (2) had a late charge, as he
worked his way from 7th place to a 2nd
place finish, but before he could make the pass the
checkered flags dropped. Cooper would go on to win by a
car length after leading most of the field for much of the
race by 4 car lengths. Jim Lafler (32) would take home the
bronze medal with Erick Rudolph (72) following in 4th
place in his new Lafler Chassis. Newcomer to the NYMM
Series, but long time race fanatic Pat Jordan (25) out of
Richford, NY showed he will be a tough competitor in the
600 class rounding out the top 5.
