With
rain once again playing havoc in the early 2008 racing season
here in NY, the folks at the Paradise Speedway and the drivers
in the 600cc NYMM Series 20 lap A-Main took the checkered flag
just as mother nature decided to start her A-Main of thunder.
Coming across the line first in dominating fashion would be
the #22 Hyper Chassis of Ryan Jordan. The win was the first
NYMM feature win for the young Jordan, who with the lead puts
himself a top the NYMM point standings early in the 2008
season. Jordan would grab the lead early from the #40 of Ben
Kysor and never looked back.
Things
would get off to a bumpy start when the #89 of Mariah Clark
and the 23x of George Holliday would get tangled up on lap 2
of heat 1. Both cars would take a wild ride with both drivers
getting out on their own and walking away.
Heat
two saw Erick Schwartz bring home his first NYMM Series heat
win over the young gun Ethan Morgan who was driving in his
first NYMM race. While it may not have been a first place heat
finish, young Morgan was still one spot ahead of his father
Timex who finished in 3rd.
A
regular member to the winner circle Jamm’n Jimmy Lafler won
his first heat of the 2008 season over one of New Yorks top
drivers (in any division) Erick Rudolph in his #72 Pizza Logs
2008 Lafler Chassis. Ken Wills picked up the final pin pull
position in heat 3, while Dan Miller was able to take his
Upstate Step and Rail #17 to the final automatic transfer
position.
Paradise regular Steve Doell captured the checkered flags of
the final heat of the night, ousting Jim Radney and his
borrowed King house car #1k. Last years top feature wins
driver Zack Morgan picked up from his disappointing finish the
previous NYMM race to grab the 3rd and final pin
pull of the evening. Black Rock feature winner Nick Cooper
hung on to take the final qualifying spot.
16
cars automatically in set up a 13 car 12 lap B-Main and when
the dust settled it was Dave Ferguson driving his way into an
A-Main position. Ferguson was able to hold off the hard
charging 02 of Ken Welty who ended up taking home the silver
in the B-Main. Driving for Kirsten Dombroski was the 41 of
Eric Wise who picked up the third place B-Main finish and some
key points for Kirsten who had some bad luck with her car
before the heats. Hats off to Eric for his generous help.
The
field was set and pushed onto the field in a very shortened
intermission. Race Director Mark DeRue gave the drivers a
short speech on taking care of business on the track and
driving a smart race as the rain began to fall on the track
just as the first tire hit the clay. The drivers didn’t
disappoint. Only 3 cautions fell in the 20 lap feature in one
of the fastest features ever. Ben Kysor in his #40 Stallard
Chassis would lead the field to the starting cone as all 24
cars would make it through the first 3 laps. No major
accidents would lead to 21 of the 24 cars finishing the race
at the checkered flag lead by young Ryan Jordan.
The
NYMM Series would like to thank all of the NYMM Series
competitors and the Paradise
crew for their quick reaction and promptness in such short
notice Saturday night. The drivers really put on a clinic on
how to get ready when the horn sounds. Great job to all on a
great night of racing!
